PORT TOWNSEND, WA— Northern Peninsula Football Club (NPFC) joins the elite adult men’s Western Washington Premier League (WWPL) in 2020 to complete the new Second Division. The team will play its home matches at historic Jefferson County Memorial Field in downtown Port Townsend and is sponsored by Henery Hardware.
Joost Besijn leads a group organizing the new team, which will feature Juan Carlos Cisneros as its first head coach. “We seek to provide a higher level of soccer for players in the Northern Olympic Peninsula,” says Besijn. “Currently, there are no local opportunities for adults to play higher level elite soccer unless affiliated with an educational institution. However, in Port Townsend, Sequim, and Port Angeles there are large communities of soccer players (including high school and college players) that get together for rec soccer through pick-up games and rec leagues.”

Besijn believes the community, often thought of as isolated due to geography, is overdue for a team like this. “There is much support for local soccer in the Northern Peninsula which is illustrated by high attendance at local high school, college, rec leagues, and even pick-up games. We want to harness that support and become a focusing point for soccer support in the area. After conversation with folks at Jefferson County we are confident that we have their full support and backing in successfully establishing this club.”
